Have you ever watched a master weaver at work? The speed
and fluency of practiced hands flying across the loom and spindle interlacing
the strands of fine linen is truly impressive to behold. To the
untrained observer there is something almost magical at the sight of
warp and weft coming together in perfect harmony to give shape to patterns
and designs seen only in the mind’s eye of the weaver.
Weaving is one of the oldest of the human arts. Mankind has been
weaving fabric for clothing and other purposes since before the dawn of
recorded history.Yet for all of its beauty and intricacy, the human art of
weaving, like all of man’s other creative arts, is but a dim reflection of the
creativity and artistry of the Master Weaver Himself, who wove the heavens
and the earth together and who created man in His own image.
The psalmist proclaims: “The heavens are telling of the glory of
God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands”1; “When I
consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars,
which You have ordained; what is man that You take thought of him, and
the son of man that You care for him?”2; “For You formed my inward
parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I
am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are Your works, and my
soul knows it very well.”3

God is a Master Artist and Craftsman, not only of that which is seen
but also that which is unseen. He is a Creator by nature and as such is
always creating. As the Master Weaver, God is weaving the renowned
tapestry of human history; He is interlacing the warp and weft of each of
our individual lives into the pattern of His own design.Much of the pattern
of this great tapestry consists of the dreams that are such a significant
part of each of our lives. This includes not only the hopes and
dreams we have for our future but also the dreams that come to us when
we are in our state of sleeping.
